Escaped Mississippi Inmate Captured After Standoff
Joshua Zimmerman, a Mississippi inmate who escaped from the DeSoto County Courthouse on June 14, has been captured after a standoff at a Chicago restaurant near the Democratic National Convention. Zimmerman, wanted for murder, armed robbery, and attempted murder, was working at the restaurant when he was located by the U.S. Marshals Service. During an initial arrest attempt, Zimmerman barricaded himself in the restaurant's ceiling. The standoff, involving SWAT teams and U.S. Marshals, concluded Wednesday morning with Zimmerman's arrest. Authorities plan to extradite him back to Mississippi to gather more details about his escape. No civilians were at risk during the standoff.
