Yunus Joins Voice of Global South Summit

Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, emphasized the importance of placing youth and students at the core of strategies for the Global South during his participation in the third 'Voice of the Global South Summit' hosted virtually by India. Yunus highlighted that two-thirds of the population in the Global South are youth who possess entrepreneurial spirit and are technologically advanced. This Summit, initiated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to unite countries of the Global South to tackle pressing global challenges. Yunus's participation marks his first multilateral engagement since assuming office, following a recent call with Modi reaffirming India's support for a democratic Bangladesh and addressing concerns regarding the safety of minority communities. The Summit will facilitate discussions across various sectors, including health, trade, and climate change, with participation from leaders worldwide. This year's event reflects ongoing diplomatic efforts between India and Bangladesh amidst the political turmoil following the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
