The Miami Marlins have designated veteran shortstop Tim Anderson for assignment after a disappointing first half of the season. Anderson, who signed a one-year, $5 million deal with Miami, batted just .214 with no home runs and nine RBIs over 65 games. His struggles at the plate continued from the previous season, resulting in a career-low .463 OPS and 30 OPS+. Anderson, a former All-Star and 2019 AL batting champion with the White Sox, faced challenges following a knee injury in 2023 that affected his performance. The Marlins, currently having a poor season with a 30-54 record, plan to give playing time to younger players like Vidal Bruján and Xavier Edwards. Anderson will now seek opportunities with other teams, potentially needing to prove himself in Triple-A first.
