University of Tennessee Partners with Pilot for Neyland Stadium
The University of Tennessee has partnered with Pilot travel center in a groundbreaking 20-year deal that preserves the name of Neyland Stadium while allowing for significant branding and renovation efforts. The iconic statue of General Robert Neyland has been temporarily relocated to facilitate construction, which includes the installation of a new elevator. Under the terms of the deal, Pilot will provide funding for the stadium's $337 million renovation project, while also receiving prominent signage throughout the venue, including on the playing surface. Athletic director Danny White emphasized the importance of maintaining the stadium's name, asserting that it remains an iconic landmark for fans. This partnership reflects a broader trend among collegiate athletic departments seeking innovative revenue streams as they prepare for changes in athlete compensation. The agreement with Pilot is seen as a model for future partnerships in college sports, allowing institutions to modernize facilities while honoring tradition.
