Oakland Man Charged in Juneteenth Shooting

JaJuan Kelly, a 23-year-old Oakland resident, has been charged with four counts of felony assault with a semi-automatic firearm in connection with a mass shooting at a Juneteenth celebration near Lake Merritt. The shooting, which occurred on June 19, left 14 people injured and involved an exchange of gunfire between two groups. Kelly, who was also wounded in the incident, faces additional charges including possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person. He claimed to have fired in self-defense when the opposing group appeared 'suspicious.' Authorities recovered over 50 shell casings from the scene and continue to search for other suspects involved.
