Kaspersky Reports Surge in Phishing Attacks
Kaspersky's recent research indicates a significant rise in phishing attacks targeting major brands, particularly Google, Facebook, and Amazon, with attempts to access fake resources reaching nearly 26 million in the first half of 2024—an increase of about 40% from the previous year. Google has seen a staggering 243% growth in phishing attempts, with over 4 million blocked, making it the most targeted brand, followed by Facebook (3.7 million attempts) and Amazon (3 million). Other brands, including Mastercard and Netflix, have also experienced dramatic increases in phishing activities, with Mastercard facing a 210% rise. The report emphasizes that while these high-profile brands are frequent targets, lesser-known brands are not immune, as cybercriminals often exploit products and services with high demand. Experts recommend that brands enhance their online monitoring and educate customers about potential threats to mitigate these risks.
