Hottest June on Record Globally in 2024

June 2024 marked the hottest June on record globally and the 13th consecutive month of record-breaking high temperatures, according to the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). This streak has seen global temperatures consistently exceed the 1.5°C threshold above pre-industrial levels, a significant marker set by the Paris Agreement. The ongoing heatwave, exacerbated by El Nino, has led to devastating climate impacts worldwide, including severe heatwaves, floods, and wildfires. While this 13-month streak might end soon, experts warn that the climate crisis will persist unless greenhouse gas emissions are significantly reduced. The global average temperature for June 2024 was 16.66°C, breaking the previous record set in June 2023 by 0.14°C. Ocean temperatures also hit new highs, contributing to the overall heat increase.
