The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya successfully intercepted a significant sugar smuggling operation on August 24, apprehending two Indian nationals and seizing three trucks loaded with approximately 74,000 kg of sugar intended for illegal export to Bangladesh. This joint operation with local police occurred near the Lyngkhat border area in East Khasi Hills district, where the drivers could not provide valid documentation for the sugar consignment. Following the operation, both individuals and the confiscated sugar were handed over to the Pynursla police station for further investigation and legal action. The BSF's ongoing efforts to secure the Indo-Bangladesh border have included enhanced surveillance and a multi-tiered strategy to combat smuggling and illegal crossings. Earlier in August, the BSF had also thwarted an infiltration attempt involving four Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian accomplices. This recent operation highlights the BSF's commitment to maintaining border security and preventing illegal activities.
