Hyderabad Bans Alcohol Sales for Bonalu Festival

In preparation for the Mahankali Bonalu festivities, Hyderabad's prohibition and excise office has mandated a temporary closure of all liquor shops, including toddy and wine establishments, from 6 am on July 28 to 6 am on July 29 in the southeast and southwest zones, and until 6 am on July 30 in the South zone. This measure aims to ensure a peaceful celebration of the cultural event, as confirmed by police officials. The decision follows a recent incident where traffic police were criticized for their handling of drunk drivers during a check in Chevella. Additionally, a local student, Mohammed Amir Ahmed, is in critical condition in a Detroit hospital after a road accident, prompting his family to seek emergency travel assistance from the Indian embassy. The Telangana government has also allocated significant funds for urban development in Hyderabad, reflecting ongoing infrastructure improvements in the region.
