Police Searching for Inmate Who Escaped Prison

A manhunt is underway for 42-year-old Gary Rootham, who escaped from HMP Leyhill in South Gloucestershire, wearing a dark Nike polo shirt, dark jogging bottoms, and black trainers. Rootham, serving time for driving, robbery, and burglary offenses, has known connections to Reading and Cornwall. Police advise not to approach him but to call 999 if spotted. In a separate incident, a 38-year-old inmate briefly escaped from Racine Correctional Institution in Sturtevant, now back in custody. Additionally, an Oregon fugitive, Steven Craig Johnson, who escaped prison 30 years ago, was found in Georgia using a dead child's identity, arrested, and awaits extradition to Oregon for prior offenses including sex abuse and attempted sodomy.
