Sampdoria Fires Coach Andrea Pirlo

Andrea Pirlo has been sacked as the coach of Sampdoria after the team managed only one point from its first three matches of the Serie B season, leaving them second from bottom. Pirlo, who took over in June 2023 following Sampdoria's relegation from Serie A, led the team to a seventh-place finish and a preliminary playoff exit last season. This was Pirlo's third coaching role, having previously managed Juventus and Turkish club Fatih Karagumruk. Despite his storied playing career, which included six Serie A titles, two Champions League wins, and a World Cup with Italy, Pirlo's coaching stints have been marked by underperformance. Sampdoria has yet to name his replacement, though names like Marco Giampaolo and Andrea Sottil have been floated.
