Delhi High Court Dismisses Dual Citizenship Plea

The Delhi High Court dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking dual citizenship for Indians abroad, asserting that such matters are under Parliament's jurisdiction due to national security implications. The bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan, emphasized that the current legal framework mandates forfeiture of Indian citizenship upon obtaining foreign citizenship, a stance supported by Article 9 of the Constitution and Section 9 of the Citizenship Act. The petitioner, Pravasi Legal Cell, argued that dual citizenship would enhance contributions from the Indian diaspora, fostering investment and cultural ties with India.
