The Sports Ministry has suspended the Paralympic Committee of India for failing to conduct elections on time. The suspension follows the PCI's delay in holding new executive committee elections, which the Ministry deems as intentional and in violation of the country's Sports Code. The PCI planned to hold elections in March 2024, almost two months after the previous committee's term ended, breaching both their constitution and the Sports Code. The suspension means Indian para-athletes will not be allowed to participate in IPC-sanctioned competitions, including this year's Paralympic Games in Paris, under the national flag. The Ministry has formed an ad-hoc body to perform PCI's tasks and conduct free, fair, and transparent elections as per the existing instructions.
