The Rajasthan High Court has granted self-styled godman Asaram Bapu a seven-day parole for Ayurvedic treatment at Madhavbaug Multidisciplinary Cardiac Care Clinic and Hospital in Maharashtra. Asaram, who is serving a life sentence for raping a minor, will be under police custody during this period. He was previously admitted to AIIMS Jodhpur for heart-related ailments. His earlier pleas for parole and sentence suspension on health grounds were rejected by both the High Court and the Supreme Court. The decision to allow treatment was finally made after Asaram insisted on receiving Ayurvedic care. Asaram has been in custody since 2013 and was convicted in 2018 by a special POCSO court.
