Drones Help Rescue Lost Hunter in Portage
A 67-year-old hunter was successfully rescued by Portage authorities after getting lost in the Gourdneck State Game Area on Sunday evening. The Portage Public Safety Police and Fire units utilized drone technology and cellphone GPS data to locate the disoriented man, making contact with him by 9:40 p.m. Though found quickly, it took responders over an hour to safely extract him from the thick, wooded area. The rescue operation was supported by the Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority and South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority. Officials urge hunters to carry a compass and a charged cellphone when venturing into such areas. Fortunately, the man was unharmed after the ordeal.
