Gas Leak Prompts School Evacuations in Arkansas and Texas
Multiple gas leaks prompted evacuations at schools in Arkansas and Texas on Thursday. In Forrest City, students from Forrest City Junior High School and the Sixth Grade Academy were evacuated to the Dwight Lofton Mustang Arena after a gas leak was detected inside the building; emergency personnel have since capped the leak and are venting the premises. Similarly, Meadow Creek Elementary School in Bedford, Texas, was evacuated after a contractor struck a four-inch gas line nearby, with students relocated to Harwood Junior High as a precaution. Repairs are being handled by Atmos Energy at both locations. School districts assured parents that they do not need to take any further action at this time. Both incidents highlight the importance of safety protocols in response to gas leaks in educational environments.
