Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three new Vande Bharat Express trains, enhancing rail connectivity between Meerut-Lucknow, Madurai-Bengaluru, and Chennai-Nagercoil. The Madurai-Bengaluru train will be the fastest service between the two cities, cutting travel time to 7.45 hours, while the Meerut-Lucknow train aims to boost religious tourism by connecting key pilgrimage sites. The Chennai Egmore-Nagercoil service will operate daily except Wednesdays, facilitating pilgrimages to significant temples. The introduction of these trains is part of a broader initiative to improve infrastructure and support the rapid development of southern states, with Tamil Nadu receiving substantial budget allocations for railway projects. The new services are expected to greatly benefit regular travelers and IT professionals in the region.
