Denton jailer arrested

Miguel Mederos, a 22-year-old civilian jailer at the City of Denton Jail, has been arrested for official oppression following allegations of sexual harassment against an inmate. The victim reported that Mederos offered her a ride after her release on January 2, 2023, during which he made inappropriate sexual comments and later sent her sexual text messages. Upon receiving the report on July 17, 2024, the Denton Police Department placed Mederos on administrative leave and conducted an investigation, confirming that he acted under the color of his office to solicit sexual favors. Mederos was terminated from his position on July 23, 2024, and is currently being held in the Denton County Jail on a $2,500 bond. Interim Chief Jessica Robledo emphasized that such behavior does not reflect the values of Denton's law enforcement and that the department holds its employees to the highest standards. The police department encourages anyone with information on employee misconduct to come forward.
