Colorado Relocates Copper Creek Wolf Pack
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has initiated the capture and relocation of the Copper Creek wolf pack following multiple incidents of livestock depredation in Grand County. The pack, which includes a breeding pair and at least three pups, was reintroduced in December 2023 as part of a controversial wolf restoration program. Since April, the wolves have been responsible for killing numerous cattle and sheep, prompting concerns from local ranchers and demands for action. CPW Director Jeff Davis emphasized that the relocation decision was made after considering various stakeholder inputs and is not a precedent for future wolf-livestock conflict resolutions. The relocation aims to balance the restoration of the wolf population with the needs of Colorado residents. Details of the wolves' new location will be disclosed after the operation to protect the animals and staff.
