One Killed in Glendale Freeway Collision

A 24-year-old man, Jake Huard, was killed late Friday night after exiting a stalled vehicle on the eastbound Ventura (134) Freeway in Glendale and being struck by a speeding Mazda. The incident began when a silver Mitsubishi, which was stopped for unknown reasons, was rear-ended by the Mazda traveling over 65 mph. Huard, who was standing outside the Mitsubishi, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 19-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi suffered serious injuries due to not wearing a seatbelt. The 22-year-old Mazda driver sustained minor injuries. All eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed for investigation until about 7 a.m. Saturday. Authorities have confirmed that the crash occurred amidst light traffic conditions.
