Muhammad Azzam, a 34-year-old doctor at Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva, has been indicted for swearing allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS) and consuming extremist content online. Arrested in July, Azzam had been exposed to radical materials since 2014, which included graphic videos of executions and instructions for making explosives and poisons. Authorities discovered he had pledged allegiance to ISIS's leader, Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, after the October 7 Hamas attack, expressing joy over the violence in communications with friends. The Soroka Medical Center expressed shock at the allegations and is cooperating with law enforcement. The indictment was filed on August 8, 2024, following a thorough investigation by the Shin Bet and police. This case highlights growing concerns over domestic involvement with terrorist organizations in Israel.
