Maro Itoje Named New Saracens Captain
Maro Itoje has been named the new captain of Saracens, succeeding Owen Farrell, who has transferred to Racing 92 in France after a long tenure with the club. Itoje, 29, expressed his humility and excitement about leading the team, which is undergoing significant changes with the departure of key players. Since debuting for Saracens in 2013, he has made 181 appearances and won multiple titles, including five Premiership Championships and three European Champions Cups. Director of Rugby Mark McCall praised Itoje's leadership qualities and dedication, stating he embodies the spirit of Saracens. Itoje has also made a name for himself off the pitch with initiatives like The Pearl Fund, aimed at improving the lives of children in Africa. The club begins its new season away to Gloucester on September 21.
