Nick Itkin Wins Bronze in Men's Foil
Nick Itkin, a 24-year-old fencer from the United States, has won a bronze medal in the Men's Individual Foil at the 2024 Paris Olympics, defeating Japan's Kazuki Iimura 15-12. This marks Itkin's second Olympic medal, having previously earned a bronze in the team foil event at the Tokyo Games. As the second-ranked foil fencer in the world, Itkin's victory is part of a successful run for the U.S. fencing team, which includes gold and silver medals from fellow fencers Lee Kiefer and Lauren Scruggs. Itkin's father, Misha, a Jewish immigrant from Ukraine, coached him throughout his journey in fencing, and Itkin has expressed the cultural significance of his Jewish heritage. The Notre Dame alumnus is now one of only six American fencers to medal individually in men’s foil, with his performance underscoring the strength of the U.S. fencing program. He will next compete in the team foil event against Egypt on August 4.
