Philippines Plans Acquisition of Typhon Missile System

The Philippines plans to procure the US-made Typhon mid-range capability (MRC) missile system, as announced by Armed Forces Chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. This initiative aims to enhance the country's external defense strategy, complementing its existing BrahMos missile systems. The Typhon can fire both Tomahawk and SM-6 missiles, with ranges capable of reaching critical areas such as the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait. China has expressed concerns over this development, labeling it a threat to regional security, while Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated a resumption of intermediate-range missile production in response. The Philippine military is also starting training for the potential operation of the MRC system, which aligns with their roadmap for becoming a world-class armed force.
