Lydia Ko Wins Third Major at AIG Women's Open
Lydia Ko claimed her third major title by winning the AIG Women's Open at St Andrews, finishing with a three-under-par 69 and a total score of 7-under 281. This victory marks her first major win since 2016 and comes shortly after her gold medal victory at the Paris Olympics. Ko started the final day three shots behind the leader, Jiyai Shin, but surged ahead with a birdie on the final hole, securing a two-shot victory over a quartet of competitors including Nelly Korda and Lilia Vu, who all finished at 5-under. Korda had held the lead at one point but faltered with a double bogey on the 14th, which allowed Ko to catch up. The triumph at the historic venue, where Ko was the leading amateur in 2013, adds to her impressive career milestones and comes with a significant prize of $2.28 million. Reflecting on her win, Ko expressed disbelief at her recent achievements and the 'Cinderella story' of her career.
