GM Must Face Class Action Over Faulty Transmissions

General Motors (GM) has been ordered by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to face a class action lawsuit regarding transmissions in vehicles sold from 2015 to 2019, affecting around 800,000 vehicles across 26 states. The lawsuit involves models from Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC that reportedly exhibit severe transmission issues, such as vibrations and jerking during operation, even post-repairs. Despite GM's claim that most class members had not experienced problems and thus lacked standing to sue, the court upheld that overpaying for allegedly defective vehicles is sufficient for standing. Judge Karen Nelson Moore emphasized that the specifics of individual experiences with the transmission issues were irrelevant to the case's broader claims of concealed defects. The case highlights significant consumer concerns regarding vehicle safety and manufacturer accountability. GM did not immediately respond to requests for comment following the court's decision.
