Meta Platforms has announced a partnership with Sage Geosystems to secure geothermal energy for its U.S. data centers, aiming to tap into 150 megawatts of new baseload power by 2027. This initiative comes as Meta seeks to bolster its infrastructure to meet the growing energy demands driven by its investments in artificial intelligence technologies. The geothermal project will utilize Sage's proprietary Geopressured Geothermal System, which is designed to be scalable and efficient compared to traditional methods. While the specific location for the project remains undecided, it will be located east of the Rocky Mountains. The deal highlights the increasing collaboration between the tech sector and the federal government to promote clean energy solutions in response to rising electricity demands. Meta's ongoing commitment to renewable energy includes over 12,000 megawatts in contracted projects to support its data center growth.
