Parents Charged in Baby's Dog Mauling Death

Sulamain Hawkins and Anastasia Weaver, both 19, have been charged with manslaughter after their 3-month-old son, Sulamain Hawkins Jr., was fatally mauled by two dogs in an attic in Rochester, New York. On August 3, the parents allegedly left their child alone with the dogs to smoke marijuana downstairs. Upon returning, they found the infant unresponsive and took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Following an investigation by local authorities, the couple was arrested on August 21 and arraigned the next day, pleading not guilty to the charges. The dogs involved in the incident, described as pit bull-type, have since been euthanized. The parents are set to appear in court again on August 27.
