Chino Hills Man Charged with Newport Beach Murder

Huntington Beach police are investigating a possible suicide at Bella Terra mall after discovering the body of an unidentified man near the parking structure on Wednesday morning. The incident does not pose a threat to the public, and the Orange County coroner’s office is managing the case. In a separate incident, Brandon Christian Chanman, 35, of Chino Hills, has been charged with the murder of 48-year-old Reginald Hidalgo Fils in Newport Beach. Police responded to a welfare check on Friday and found Fils dead with signs of trauma in his apartment. Chanman, who was arrested on Monday, was acquainted with Fils, though the nature of their relationship remains unclear. Authorities are not seeking additional suspects and assure the community there is no ongoing threat.
