Macfadyen Reflects on Mr. Darcy Role and Legacy
Matthew Macfadyen, known for his role as Mr. Darcy in the 2005 film adaptation of 'Pride and Prejudice,' recently admitted that he did not enjoy playing the character and felt miscast. In interviews, Macfadyen revealed that he was often worried and did not feel 'dishy enough' for the role, although he acknowledged that it ultimately worked out. Director Joe Wright mentioned that casting Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet was pivotal in allowing Macfadyen to be cast as Mr. Darcy. Despite his reservations, Macfadyen appreciates that people still recognize him for the role nearly 20 years later. The film, which also starred Keira Knightley and garnered multiple Oscar nominations, grossed $121.6 million worldwide. Macfadyen and Colin Firth, who played Mr. Darcy in the 1995 TV adaptation, later discussed their experiences portraying the iconic character.
