Gang-Rape of Tribal Woman in Chhattisgarh

A 27-year-old tribal woman was gang-raped by multiple men in Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh, while returning from a local fair after the Rakshabandhan festival. The incident occurred on August 19, 2024, when the victim was intercepted and forcibly taken to a pond where she was assaulted. She lodged a complaint on August 20, leading to the arrest of six suspects, with police actively pursuing additional suspects. The accused have been charged under sections 70(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel condemned the incident, demanding prompt arrests and support for the victim. The Congress party has also formed an inquiry committee to investigate the case further.
