NYPD Officer, Three Others Killed in Salon Crash

NYPD Officer Emilia Rennhack, 30, was killed alongside three others when a drunk driver, Steven Schwally, crashed his SUV into a Deer Park nail salon on June 28. Schwally, who had consumed 18 beers, is being held on $1 million bail and faces elevated charges. A funeral was held at New Hyde Park Funeral Home, attended by hundreds of police officers, family, and officials, including Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban. Rennhack, remembered for her infectious smile and dedication to her work, had been with the NYPD since 2018 and recently married a fellow officer. The crash also tragically impacted other victims' families, including Yan Xu, who supported her sick mother and disabled son with her earnings from the salon.
