Three Charged in Death of Chicago Firefighter

Three men have been charged in connection with the death of Chicago firefighter Jermaine Pelt, who died of smoke inhalation while battling a fire in the West Pullman neighborhood in April 2023. Martez Cristler and Nicholas Virgil face charges of murder and aggravated arson, while Anthony Moore is charged with wire fraud, insurance fraud, and forgery. Pelt, a 49-year-old veteran firefighter, was responding to a fire that spread to multiple buildings when he was overcome by smoke. He was remembered for his dedication and service, leaving behind two children and a grieving family. The suspects were arrested and are set for detention hearings.
