Landfill collapses in Uganda
At least eight individuals, including two children, have died following the collapse of the Kiteezi landfill in Kampala, Uganda, which is believed to have been triggered by heavy rainfall. The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) confirmed the fatalities and reported 14 others injured, with ongoing rescue efforts to recover more victims from the rubble. The landfill's structural failure has raised alarm over the safety of the site, which is located in a densely populated area where many residents, including children, collect plastic waste for income. Local authorities have pledged to take measures to secure the area and address environmental concerns. This incident comes amid earlier warnings about the dangers posed by the overflowing landfill, underscoring the urgent need for better waste management in the region. Rescue operations continue as authorities work to find any remaining survivors or victims.
