IIT Guwahati student suicide

A 24-year-old M-Tech student named Soumya from Uttar Pradesh was found dead in her hostel room at IIT Guwahati on August 9, 2024, marking the third unnatural death at the institute this year. Suspected to be a suicide, her body was discovered after classmates reported her absence from classes. The police are conducting an investigation and have sent the body for a post-mortem examination. IIT Guwahati expressed profound regret in a statement and is providing support to the student's family. This incident follows two other suicides at the institute earlier in the year, raising concerns about mental health among students.
