Jaguar Recalls 2019 I-Pace SUVs Over Fire Risk

Jaguar has announced a recall of approximately 3,000 I-Pace electric SUVs from the 2019 model year due to a risk of battery fires, urging owners to park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures. This follows previous recalls that updated diagnostic software, which failed to adequately protect against thermal overload, leading to reports of smoke and fire incidents despite no injuries being reported. The interim solution involves updating the battery energy control software to limit charging to 80% until a permanent fix is available. The I-Pace's batteries, produced by LG Energy Solution in Poland, are under scrutiny by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration due to similar fire risks linked to multiple automakers' vehicles. Affected owners will receive notification letters by October 18, 2024, detailing the recall process and remedial actions.
