Lawmakers Urge Investigation of TP-Link Technology

U.S. lawmakers John Moolenaar and Raja Krishnamoorthi have urged the Biden administration to investigate TP-Link Technology Co., a leading Chinese WiFi router manufacturer, over potential national security risks linked to cyberattacks. The lawmakers emphasized the need for a federal probe to assess whether TP-Link's products could be manipulated for malicious purposes, particularly given their prevalence in critical U.S. infrastructure and military settings. TP-Link has denied any security flaws, while the Chinese Embassy has demanded evidence for the allegations. This request highlights heightened apprehension regarding the potential misuse of technology by foreign entities, particularly from China, amid rising cybersecurity threats. The Commerce Department has acknowledged the lawmakers' request and plans to respond appropriately.
