A recent SmartAsset report has ranked Noblesville, Indiana, as the 12th safest suburb in the U.S., defying trends seen in neighboring cities like Carmel and Fishers. The analysis covered 360 suburbs, evaluating factors such as violent and property crime rates, excessive drinking, and traffic-related deaths. Lehi, Utah, topped the list as the safest suburb, attributed to its low rates of excessive drinking and crime, while Carmel fell to 18th place after previously ranking second in 2023. The rankings highlight that many of the safest suburbs are located in the Mountain West, Midwest, and East Coast, contrasting with lower rankings in the South. In a separate ranking, Elgin, Illinois, was named the safest and most affordable city in the nation, with notable metrics on crime rates and cost of living. Both reports underscore the importance of safety in determining the desirability and property values of suburban areas.
