Jaishankar Discusses Human Trafficking with Laos PM

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone to discuss the trafficking of Indian nationals through cyber scam centers in Laos. During their talks, which took place on July 27 amid ASEAN meetings, Jaishankar emphasized the need for bilateral cooperation in areas such as defense, energy, and heritage conservation. He expressed appreciation for the Lao government's efforts in rescuing Indian citizens, noting that the Indian embassy has successfully rescued 518 individuals, including 13 recently. Jaishankar also conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and offered India's full support for Laos' Chairship of ASEAN and the East Asia Summit. The discussions extended to the Foreign Ministers of Cambodia and Thailand, highlighting collaborative efforts in addressing human trafficking. The Indian Embassy has issued advisories to warn citizens against fake job offers in the region.
