Tripura panchayat seats
In the upcoming panchayat elections in Tripura, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured approximately 70 percent of the seats uncontested, as reported by state election officials. Out of a total of 6,889 seats across the panchayat system, the BJP won 4,805 seats without opposition, including 4,550 of the 6,370 gram panchayat seats. Polling will take place for 188 remaining seats in the panchayat samitis and 96 in the zilla parishads, where the BJP has fielded candidates for all available positions. The CPI(M) and Congress have also nominated candidates, but the BJP's dominance is evident as they have candidates in nearly all contested seats. The elections are set for August 8, with results to be announced on August 12. This unopposed success follows a trend from previous elections, where the BJP claimed 96 percent of seats uncontested.
