The UK's onshore wind project pipeline has experienced significant growth, increasing by 4.2GW over the past year to reach a total of 42.7GW, as reported by RenewableUK. This surge in capacity is more than double the previous year's increase of 1.5GW, driven by policy changes including the lifting of a de facto ban on new onshore wind projects in England. Currently, 15.5GW of onshore wind capacity is operational, enough to power approximately 10.9 million homes, with Scotland contributing 75% of the national pipeline. The Offshore Wind Growth Partnership has concurrently launched a £2 million support program aimed at enhancing manufacturing capabilities for the offshore wind sector, with hopes of reaching 60GW by 2030. If all planned onshore projects are completed, the UK's capacity could rise to 27.8GW by 2030, bolstering energy security and potentially reducing consumer bills.
