The actor described how he lost his footing during a fight scene, sliding on a newspaper and crashing into the audience, an experience he has replayed in his mind many times. Despite his serious injuries, McKellen expressed gratitude for the fat suit he wore for the role, stating it cushioned his body and prevented more severe harm. Now recovering at home, he faces anxiety about going out due to fear of being bumped into, questioning if he is 'too old to act.' However, he remains hopeful, noting that he has not given up on his career and plans to support his colleagues from the audience. McKellen recently surprised the cast of his show in Newcastle, despite still wearing a neck brace and wrist support.
