Former High Jump Champion Jacques Freitag Found Dead
Former South African high jump world champion Jacques Freitag was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds near a cemetery in Pretoria West, two weeks after going missing. Freitag, 42, left his mother's house with an unknown man on June 17 and was last seen alive in Booysens. His body was discovered in a field beside Zandfontein Cemetery, and police are treating the case as a murder. Freitag had struggled with drug addiction after his athletic career ended, and his sister Chrissie Lewis had been actively searching for him. Freitag was a decorated athlete, winning world titles at youth, junior, and senior levels, and holding a personal best of 2.38 meters set in 2005.
