Overloaded Truck Causes Bridge Collapse in Maine

A Ford F750 dump truck loaded with crushed gravel crashed through the historic Babb’s Covered Bridge in Gorham, Maine, on Friday, falling into the Presumpscot River. The truck, driven by Joshua Polewarzyk, significantly exceeded the bridge's 3-ton weight limit, causing extensive damage to the structure. Polewarzyk sustained minor injuries and was cited for a bridge violation by state police. The bridge, originally built in 1840 and reconstructed in 1976, will be closed for several months for repairs.
