Van Gundy, known for his basketball acumen, spent the last season as a senior consultant for the championship-winning Boston Celtics and previously worked as an ESPN analyst for 16 years. His strong relationship with Lue, built during their time with USA Basketball, was a key factor in his hiring. Van Gundy brings extensive experience, having previously coached the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets, including a trip to the NBA Finals in 1999 with the Knicks. The Clippers seek to stabilize their coaching staff after lead assistant Dan Craig left for the Chicago Bulls.
