Ganderbal Deputy Commissioner Faces Contempt Charges

Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal, Shyambir Singh, has tendered an unconditional apology to Chief Judicial Magistrate Fayaz Ahmad Qureshi in response to contempt proceedings initiated against him for allegedly pressuring the judge in a land dispute case. The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir initially rejected Singh's oral apology, directing him to personally apologize to the CJM to demonstrate sincerity. Singh, who claimed any disrespect was unintentional, was advised by the court to approach the CJM voluntarily, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the separation between judiciary and executive powers. The contempt charges stem from Singh's interference in judicial processes after a ruling that involved the attachment of salaries for several officials, including himself. The case remains under consideration, with further proceedings scheduled for August 14.
