Steny Hoyer Recovering from Mild Stroke
Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) suffered a mild ischemic stroke on Sunday night but has responded well to treatment and has no lingering symptoms. His spokesperson, Margaret Mulkerrin, stated that Hoyer expects to resume his normal schedule next week. Hoyer, 85, has served Maryland in Congress since 1981 and is running for reelection this fall. Well wishes from various politicians, including former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and state officials, have poured in, expressing relief at his recovery. The House is currently in its August recess, providing Hoyer some time to recover before resuming duties. Hoyer remains a significant figure in Maryland politics.
