Brazil's Supreme Court has ordered the immediate suspension of social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, after Elon Musk failed to appoint a legal representative in the country by a court-imposed deadline. Justice Alexandre de Moraes mandated the halt of X's operations until all legal orders are satisfied, including the payment of fines totaling 18.5 million reais ($3.28 million). The ruling comes amid a protracted conflict between Musk and the Brazilian judiciary, with X accused of not complying with directives to block accounts spreading misinformation linked to former President Jair Bolsonaro's supporters. Users attempting to access the platform via VPNs may face fines of up to 50,000 reais daily. Musk has described the judge's actions as censorship, while the platform has announced its intention to challenge the ruling in court. X's operations in Brazil are critical, given that approximately 20% of the population utilizes the service monthly.
