A 55-year-old woman has been arrested in Cheshire for allegedly spreading false information about the suspect in the Southport murders, which resulted in nationwide riots. The woman, believed to be Bernadette Spofforth, faces charges for publishing material intended to stir up racial hatred and false communications. This follows the tragic stabbing incident that claimed the lives of three young girls, with the true attacker identified as 18-year-old Axel Rudakubana, a Cardiff native. Chief Superintendent Alison Ross emphasized the dangers of sharing unverified information on social media, which has contributed to violent unrest across the UK. Spofforth has denied being the originator of the false claims, asserting that she merely retweeted misinformation. The police have warned that sharing incorrect information can have serious legal repercussions.
