Rakesh Singh Appointed Chairperson of K-RERA

The Karnataka government has appointed retired IAS officer Rakesh Singh as the new chairperson of the Karnataka Real Estate Regulatory Authority (K-RERA), effective immediately. Singh's appointment comes after an interim court order prohibited the previous acting chairperson, Naveen Raj Singh, from serving in that role. With extensive experience in urban development, including positions with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and the Bangalore Development Authority, Singh is expected to address ongoing dissatisfaction among home buyers regarding K-RERA's effectiveness. His tenure is set for approximately five years, pending any governmental changes. Singh's selection reportedly benefitted from his strong ties with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, amid a competitive selection process involving other retired IAS officers. As chairperson, Singh will be tasked with enhancing the authority's performance and restoring public confidence.
